The Moorestown Community House is an integral part of our town and is certainly
worthy of our support. There are no members: everyone is welcome. Won't you
join us in making a tax-deductible contribution to the Community House? No
matter what its size, your contribution will ensure that the Community House
will continue to server Moorestown in the years ahead.
A great community tradition
Originally funded by industrialist and Moorestown resident Eldridge Johnson and
a town-wide fund drive in the 1920's, the Moorestown Community House has been
the center of our town's social, cultural and recreational activities for more
than 80 years.
If you've lived in town for a while, chances are you or your children have been
in the Community House for one of any number of events or activities.
We would like to take this opportunity to answer some of the questions that are
asked most frequently.
What goes on at the Community House?
We provide meeting, office and programming space to a wide variety of
non-profit organizations at a very low cost. Our current full-time tenants
include senior day care, a school for children with language-based learning
differences, and a support organization for victims of violent crimes and their
families. Other activities include meetings, seminars, wedding and baby
showers, birthday parties, family reunions, anniversary parties, craft bazaars,
pool parties, holiday receptions, bridge games, dances and dance lessons,
drama, lap swimming, therapeutic water exercise, swimming lessons, basketball,
volleyball and much more. Last year, total functions in meeting rooms exceeded
1,200. In addition, there were more than 1,210 separate basketball rentals and
more than 2,040 hours of pool use.
Who owns the Community House?
We are a private non-profit organization governed by a Board of Trustees. We
receive no tax money or any other governmental assistance, nor do we get
assistance from any charitable organization.
How does the Community House support itself?
We have three main funding sources - room rental fees, income from a modest
investment fund and donations from people like you.
Why is it necessary for the Community House to charge room rental fees?
Rental fees are used exclusively to pay the building's day-to-day operating
expenses such as utilities and staffing.
When I donate money, where does it go?
Funds from donations are used for capital projects that cannot be supported out
of the operating budget. Your generous donations have allowed us to make needed
repairs and improvements over the years. Thanks to your help, we have
accomplished a lot. Our main floor is accessible to all members of the
community regardless of physical condition. Our pool has systems that control
temperature and humidity, and balance the chemistry of the water. Our gym is
air-conditioned, allowing us to hold functions in that room year-round. Much
remains to be done. The list of needed improvements is long and it runs the
gamut from replacing the pool exterior windows to rebuilding the back patio and
resurfacing our parking lot. Your tax-deductible contribution, no matter its
size, will ensure that this unique and special place will be available for use
by generations yet to come.
How can I reserve a room?
Give us a call at (856) 235-0326 ext. 100 anytime between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through
Friday. Tell us the type of function you have in mind; the number that will be
attending, and the time and date you want to hold the function. We'll work with
you to determing the room and layout that best suits your needs.
Do you rent your indoor pool for parties?
Absolutely. Our pool party package includes exclusive use of our heated pool
and a party room for a surprisingly modest fee. Call us at (856) 235-0326 for
details.
